Learn to Fly with OBX Airplanes

In addition to our air tours, biplane rides, and banner towing services, OBX Airplanes also offers flight training with knowledgeable and enthusiastic Certified Flight Instructors. OBX Airplanes can help you turn your dream of flying into a reality by helping you along the path to acquiring your Private Pilot’s License.

If you’ve ever thought of learning to fly, come take an introductory flight with OBX Airplanes. Your first flying lesson can be one-on one with a Certified Flight Instructor for only $169, or you can share the experience by bringing along up to two passengers for only $249.

After your initial lesson we will help you organize your plan for acquiring your Private Pilot’s License. The FAA requires that you log a minimum of 40 hours of flight time which must include at least 20 hours of flight training from a Certified Flight Instructor and at least 10 hours of solo flight training. OBX Airplanes can help you log these hours in the most economical way possible.

We offer flight instruction in our Cessna 150 aircraft for only $100 per hour and only $55 per hour for your Certified Flight Instructor’s time with you in the aircraft. If you book 10 hours of flight time with OBX Airplanes, you will only pay $90 per hour for the Cessna 150 rental.

Cross-Country Flights over the Outer Banks

As part of your flight training, you will be required to log cross-country flights, or flight between airports. OBX airplanes can offer some of the most beautiful and rewarding cross-country flights that you can imagine. We think that the Outer Banks is one of the most breathtaking places to fly. One of our favorite cross-country flights is to fly from Dare County Regional Airport in Manteo to the Ocracoke Island Airport. Once we land, a shuttle from Howard’s Pub will pick us up so that we can have lunch before our return flight. This flight will allow you to log 2 hours towards your cross-country requirement for your Private Pilot’s License.
